PuzzleSalads, a popular chain of salad bars, decided to say goodbye to paper stamp cards and switch to a modern digital solution from PassMachine. The goal was to create a simple and functional loyalty program that would please customers – and also provide the chain with valuable data about guest behavior.
Paper stamps were no longer enough
Traditional paper cards with stamps had their limitations. For PuzzleSalads, they meant virtually no data, complex evaluation, and time-consuming administration. From the customers' perspective, it meant frequently forgetting cards, having several issued cards with different numbers of stamps, and consequently, more complicated reward redemption.
Digital stamp card in your mobile
The new loyalty program from PassMachine launched in July 2025. With clearly set rules: three stamps earn a 30% discount on the fourth meal, and nine stamps earn an even 50% discount on the tenth meal. Two rewards on one card, which is stored directly on the customer's mobile in Google or Apple Wallet.
The digital card is always at hand, doesn't get lost, and works across all branches. It also serves as a communication channel – on its back, customers can find information about branches, links to social media, and program rules. The most loyal fans have already managed to collect dozens of stamps.
Real-time data
Digitization also brought a completely new overview of customers. Today, PuzzleSalads knows exactly how many customers with the mobile loyalty program visit individual branches, how many of them return, and how the occupancy varies between locations. Real-time data helps them optimize operations and strategy.
Results after the first weeks
- 2,500+ customers registered within 6 weeks
- 88% of loyalty cards are actively used
- over 11,000 stamps issued (average of 267 per day)
- nearly 500 rewards redeemed
- 74% of customers made repeat purchases
- 11% of customers made more than nine purchases and received the full reward
- the busiest branches issue over 1,000 stamps per month
Brand and customer experience
The new loyalty program had an immediate effect. Registrations ran almost on their own – thanks to QR codes in restaurants, newsletters, and a short video on Instagram. Customers quickly took a liking to the program and appreciate having one clear card in their mobile without having to install any app.
We view digital loyalty cards as a great tool for collecting footfall data, customer segmentation, and tracking branch performance. Customers also praise that their paper cards don't get lost, and they know exactly what reward they are entitled to.
