Google Wallet Gets a New Look

What does this mean for your digital cards?

At the I/O 2026 conference, Google unveiled a new design for the Google Wallet app. The change primarily affects how users view saved cards. Google Wallet is gradually updating its interface across Android versions, so not all users will see the new look at once. This change also impacts brands using the PassMachine platform.

What specifically is changing?

The current Google Wallet functioned more like a long list of all saved cards. The new interface brings a different approach: the main screen, according to Google, serves as a "dynamic quick access to your favorites", meaning quick access to favorite items. Cards are displayed as compact tiles in two columns. Other cards will not disappear from Google Wallet. Users can access them via the "View More" button, which also serves as a comprehensive and easily searchable hub for everything in the app, including detailed transaction information for payment cards.

What does this mean for your brand?

The new interface aims for clarity and speed. For loyalty cards, memberships, or season tickets, this means one thing: cards marked as favorites will always be visible on the main screen, while others will be a click deeper.
The good news is that if a customer adds your card to their favorites, they will literally have it at their fingertips faster than ever before. For this to happen, it's important to inform customers about the change and motivate them to act.

How to work with the changes?

This update is an ideal opportunity to naturally reach out to customers and remind them of the value of your card.

We recommend communicating actively:

  • Notifications — a short message directly linked to your card, e.g.: "Google Wallet has a new look. Add our card to your favorites so you always have it handy."
  • Email — an informational message to customers with simple instructions on how to mark the card as a favorite.
  • Social media or website — a short post or banner that explains the change and motivates customers to act, while also highlighting the option to have your cards on their mobile.

What is not changing?

According to available information, this is purely a change in the user interface. The functionality of the cards themselves, push notifications, or integrations should not be affected in any way. Use these changes as an opportunity to communicate with your customers and strengthen your brand in their mobile wallets.
